Corona

I have decided to stay where I am in Rabat for the duration of the epidemic.

Travel to the USA is now advised against by the Foreign Office.

I have been living with a family in the Medina in Rabat for 2 weeks now, and they want me to stay here with them. Morocco has only had a few cases of the virus, and all of them have been traced to other countries and contained. There is no local spread, though they have closed the schools a couple of weeks early for their April holidays.  I am probably safer here than in the UK.

My itinerary is therefore put on hold, probably for several months. I will replan completely once the epidemic is over.

I have some more posts to make about Rabat, which I will do over the next few weeks.

Here is a bit of sun to cheer you up.

  1. How very sensible Victoria. Been thinking of you and quite worried. But a good plan. All well on the Boules front, Martin has joined us for a few weeks before he goes off! but will he?.

    1. I had been wondering how things are with you. We had our bike ride last Monday- via Royden Park, coffee at Church Farm and back along the Wirral Way. Weather not bad. Take care and enjoy your somewhat prolonged stay in Rabat

  2. I’m glad to hear that you are staying put. Disappointing that your travel plans are delayed, but at least you’re in a safe place .. with sunshine. We all envy you!

  3. Glad to hear that you are safe and have decided to stay where you are! Sun, sand and the Kasbah – what more could a body want? Look forward to hearing more about Rabat.

  4. Your timing was a bit off! I have sent you a copy of our draft Pétanque Covid19 rules.

  5. I guess we are mostly self-absorbed and I for one had forgotten how things could affect you. Keep smiling.

  6. Sorry your travels have been interrupted. Have really enjoyed your excellent account of life in Morocco and look forward to more. Keep yourself safe.

  7. You are wise to stay on and I hope you keep well. Let’s hope we get back to normal in a few months..

  8. Stay safe and enjoy your extended time in Rabat. You are probably right about being safer there. I have just returned from NZ via 5 different airports and have gone into self isolation despite only symptoms being jet-lag. I am looking forward to hearing more of Rabat
I really envy you the heat my joints are complaining in the cold

  9. we had been wondering if you were still in Morocco, I’m sure you have made the right decision in staying on but how disappointing that your original plans are on hold. Have really enjoyed reading your posts – and like your other “fans” marvelling that the sky can actually be blue and not grey! Take care

  10. So glad you are safe. You best stay where you are. Love your reports. Brilliant. The world is so rapidly changing and I have a feeling will not return to what it was. Being asked to stay at home is no real hardship. Comfortable home with adequate food – no problem. Compared with Nelson Mandela who for 20 years or so had a cell no larger that 8 feet by 10 feet and only a straw mattress and a hole in the floor. Stay safe and keep smiling and posting reports. XXX
